Over the last several updates, I’ve been working on turning Mudhaven’s forums into a complete community system instead of just a place to post basic discussions.
A lot has changed, so here is everything you can now use.
Better Forum Organization
The forums are now organized into categories, subcategories, and individual boards. Each section has clearer navigation, icons, breadcrumbs, and its own purpose.
You can browse everything from general MUD discussion to development, BYOND projects, resources, recruitment, and hosting support.
Improved Discussions
Forum discussions now support:
- Discussion prefixes such as Question, Guide, Event, Development, Recruitment, and Resolved
- Official staff announcements
- File attachments
- Single-choice and multiple-choice polls
- Reply watching
- Saved discussions
- Private post drafts
- Markdown formatting
- Live post previews
- View and reply counts
The editor includes buttons for headings, bold and italic text, quotes, lists, links, code, and other formatting.
Drafts are saved to your account, so accidentally leaving the page should no longer mean losing everything you wrote.
Questions and Accepted Answers
When creating a discussion, you can mark it as a Question.
The person who started the Question can select one reply as the accepted answer. Authorized moderators can also help manage accepted answers when necessary.
Accepted answers:
- Appear prominently inside the discussion
- Link directly to the correct reply
- Help other users find working solutions
- Contribute to public community-helpfulness badges
- Can be replaced if a better answer is posted
Contribution badges are based only on currently accepted public answers. Views, reactions, post counts, and private activity are not turned into popularity scores.
The Knowledge Library
Mudhaven now has a public Knowledge Library containing solved Questions and reviewed community Guides.
You can:
- Search for answers and guides
- Filter solved Questions and curated Guides
- Browse by topic
- Find featured Guides
- See related discussions
- Follow accepted answers back to their original conversations
Help Improve Community Knowledge
Verified members can now help improve the Knowledge Library directly from a public discussion.
You can suggest that staff:
- Add a Guide to the Knowledge Library
- Connect two related discussions
- Mark a Question as a duplicate of an existing solved Question
- Review an accepted answer that may be outdated
These suggestions are reviewed by staff. They are not public votes, and submitting the same suggestion repeatedly does not increase its priority.
If a suggestion is reviewed, you will receive an account notification explaining the outcome.
Related and Duplicate Discussions
Approved knowledge connections now appear directly on discussions.
A discussion may show:
- A related Guide
- Another useful discussion covering the same subject
- The canonical solved Question for a duplicate
- Other Questions that link back to it
Duplicate discussions are not silently deleted or merged. Their original content remains available, while readers are directed toward the best existing answer.
Polls and Attachments
Members can create polls on boards where polling is enabled.
Polls support:
- Single-choice voting
- Multiple-choice voting
- Changing your vote
- Aggregate public results
Individual voter identities are not displayed publicly.
Boards that allow uploads also support bounded private attachments. Download access is checked against the current board and discussion permissions.
Saved Discussions and Drafts
You can save discussions you want to return to later.
The community navigation now gives you quick access to:
- Saved discussions
- Your private drafts
- Forum search
- The Knowledge Library
- Member profiles
- Forum governance
Member Profiles and Forum Contributions
Public member profiles can now show forum activity, accepted answers, pinned discussions, special community tags, and contribution badges.
Accepted-answer badges always link back to real, publicly visible work. If an accepted answer is removed or no longer publicly available, its contribution credit is removed as well.
Forum Standing and Appeals
Every member has a private Forum Standing page.
This page can show:
- Forum warnings
- Warning acknowledgement status
- Active and previous forum suspensions
- Appeal history
- Staff decisions that affect your forum participation
If you receive a forum suspension, you may submit one appeal while it is active. Staff can accept or deny the appeal, and you will receive the result through your account.
Forum suspensions only affect forum participation. Suspended members can still read public discussions and submit safety reports.
Clearer Moderation Rules
Mudhaven now has a versioned public moderation policy explaining how warnings, suspensions, reports, and appeals work.
Members can acknowledge the current policy through their accounts.

We have also added a privacy-safe transparency page showing aggregate moderation activity without exposing member identities, private evidence, reasons, or open cases.
More Consistent Moderation
Moderators can now be assigned to specific boards or categories instead of automatically receiving power over the entire forum.
Forum moderation actions are recorded, and structural actions such as moving, merging, splitting, locking, or archiving a discussion appear in its moderator history where appropriate.
Moderators can also:
- Move discussions to the correct board
- Merge true duplicates while preserving the old URL
- Split a conversation into a new discussion
- Lock or unlock discussions
- Pin important discussions
- Apply slow mode
- Archive and restore discussions
Nothing Is Automatically Deleted
Forum retention tools archive inactive discussions instead of deleting them.
Archived discussions remain:
- Readable
- Searchable where appropriate
- Available in account exports
- Restorable by staff
Automated maintenance can remind staff that something needs review, but it cannot issue a warning, decide an appeal, or remove an accepted answer on its own.
