SMAUG / Realms of Despair - Historical Area Pack
Original bundle of 24 historical SMAUG area and support files, including help and builder data with individual contributor credits.
About this resource
The original areapack.tgz contains 24 .are files, including adventure areas, help.are and builder/support data. It is not 24 independent adventure zones and is not a complete game server. Eighteen member files also appear byte-for-byte in existing historical SMAUG distributions; this original bundle includes six files without an exact match in the inspected server archive members. Credits and licensing Retain the individual author headers and embedded contributor acknowledgements. The files credit SMAUG, Realms of Despair, Diku contributors and the named area builders. help.are includes a SMAUG copyright notice for 1995-1998 D.S.D. Software; gallery.are includes a 1995 Do'Urden Enterprises copyright notice and acknowledges inspiration from Final Fantasy III. No standalone license or blanket redistribution grant was found in the bundle. Applicable inherited and individual contributor permissions require review; do not describe this package as unrestricted or public domain. Compatibility and security warnings Historical SMAUG data uses mixed area versions and may contain VNUM collisions, external room/object/mobile dependencies, embedded MUD programs and staff commands. Help and builder/support files may replace game-specific data if installed carelessly. Review all files and integration assumptions in an isolated test game before use. The archive has not been boot-tested or security-audited; successful integrity checks are not a malware clearance or compatibility guarantee.
