Merc 2.2 - Historical DikuMUD Source Release

Merc 2.2
The README identifies this as the 24 November 1993 production release and the final release from Merc Industries. Its 113 files include C source and headers, areas, MOBProgram examples and documentation, platform Makefiles, startup scripts, and a player-file conversion utility. The release notes describe bug and typo fixes, additional worlds, a variable line pager, MOBPrograms, and player-configurable prompts.

Read Merc22/doc/license.doc and Merc22/doc/license.txt. Merc requires source copyright preservation and the shipped help merc attribution text. Component and area contributor notices remain applicable.

Compatibility and security
Historical C and Unix build files require review for modern compilers and operating systems. Mudhaven has not compiled, boot-tested, or security-audited this release. Inspect startup scripts and configuration before running it in an isolated test environment. Historical documentation and contact addresses may be obsolete.

Licensing
The bundled Diku license restricts commercial use and distribution charges, requires preservation of its license and copyright notices, and includes publication and operation notification requirements plus login and credits attribution. The Merc terms and any contributor-specific notices also apply. The later Diku licensing announcement does not automatically relicense Merc or contributed material.
