The filename is Merc_20c.tar.gz; its README identifies the contents as the 4 July 1993 Merc 2.0 production release. The 94-file distribution includes C source and headers, area data, documentation, startup files, and Makefiles for historical platforms.

Bundled executable warning
Merc2/src/Merc.exe is a pre-built historical MS-DOS executable. It is retained as part of the original archive, not recommended as a modern Windows application, and has not been executed or security-audited by Mudhaven.

Read Merc2/doc/license.doc and Merc2/doc/license.txt. Merc requires source copyright preservation and the shipped help merc attribution text.

Compatibility and security
Historical C and Unix build files require review for modern compilers and operating systems. Mudhaven has not compiled, boot-tested, or security-audited this release. Inspect startup scripts and configuration before running it in an isolated test environment. Historical documentation and contact addresses may be obsolete.

Licensing
The bundled Diku license restricts commercial use and distribution charges, requires preservation of its license and copyright notices, and includes publication and operation notification requirements plus login and credits attribution. The Merc terms and any contributor-specific notices also apply. The later Diku licensing announcement does not automatically relicense Merc or contributed material. This listing is not evidence of permission or a substitute for reading the included documents.
