Included Content
Read or copy
Merc 1.0 The included README dates this first Merc release to 18 December 1992. The archive contains 88 files, including C source and headers, Tinyworld and auxiliary game data, original Diku documentation, Merc documentation, and startup/build files. Merc permission is stated in Merc/README.TXT and requires its copyright notices to remain intact. The inherited Diku terms are in Merc/doc_diku/license.doc. Unlike later releases, this archive does not have the same separate Merc license.txt. The README describes a privileged god-creation startup mode; review it carefully and do not expose that setup mode to players. Compatibility and security Historical C and Unix build files require review for modern compilers and operating systems. Mudhaven has not compiled, boot-tested, or security-audited this release. Inspect startup scripts and configuration before running it in an isolated test environment. Historical documentation and contact addresses may be obsolete. Licensing The bundled Diku license restricts commercial use and distribution charges, requires preservation of its license and copyright notices, and includes publication and operation notification requirements plus login and credits attribution. The Merc terms and any contributor-specific notices also apply. The later Diku licensing announcement does not automatically relicense Merc or contributed material. This listing is not evidence of permission or a substitute for reading the included documents.
