DoA - Historical ROM-Derived Development Snapshot
Historical DoA source, world, development and build snapshot with original documentation, nested source backups, compiled Linux binaries and unsanitized runtime data.
About this resource
Original DOA_FULL.BZ2, preserved unchanged. This historical snapshot contains DoA development and build trees, C source, world data, documentation, compiled programs and runtime data. The directory trees are home/doamud/dev and home/doamud/bld inside the archive. No expanded DoA name or numbered release is established by the inspected documentation. Credits Carl Otto III / Distortions: DoA source additions and login-credit requirement. Joshua Chance Blackwell: DRM 1.0a. Preserve DikuMUD, Merc, ROM, RoT, DRM and all individual source and area notices. Dystopia-derived code credits Brian Graversen and Godwars by Richard Woolcock. MCCP credits Oliver Jowett; automap credits Dingo, Jobo and Carl Otto III. Other contributor notices remain in the original files and nested backups. License warning Keep the bundled DikuMUD, Merc, ROM, RoT and DRM licenses, all copyright notices, source and area credits, required login/help attribution, notification requirements and derivative identification conditions. The documents under home/doamud/bld/doc include license.doc, license.txt, rom.license, rot.license, DRM.license, rom.credits, readme.rom and the inherited Merc README. Their layered terms include noncommercial restrictions; this is not an unrestricted-use package. No comprehensive standalone DoA license was identified among the inspected notices. Some Dystopia-derived source, including mccp.c, refers to additional license documents in a doc/license folder that were not identified among the bundled notices. Do not assume that the inherited ROM/RoT documents clear every addition. Preserve Oliver Jowett's MCCP notice and all other component terms. Distribution permission remains unresolved; historical availability is not permission. Historical contacts may no longer work. Runtime-data and security warnings This is not a sanitized source-only distribution. It contains player records and backups, staff records, notes and logs. Password-field markers were detected in 76 runtime files; values are not reproduced here, and this does not establish whether they are plaintext, hashes or stale. Do not expose runtime records merely because technical validation or licensing review succeeds. Two compiled doabak programs are 32-bit little-endian x86 ELF binaries. Neither they nor the source were executed, compiled, boot-tested, malware-certified or comprehensively security-audited. Do not run bundled programs or scripts blindly. The development and build trees may differ and are not represented as verified working releases. Archive and compatibility warnings The outer file is bzip2-compressed TAR. The two nested backups named backup-02.04.06.tar.bz2 and orig.tar.bz2 are actually uncompressed TARs. Their original names and bytes remain intact. Macintosh metadata and an unusual three-dot source filename in src/bak are also retained; no cleanup or repackaging was performed. The Makefile refers to ccache gcc, libcrypt and zlib. Modern compiler, operating-system and binary compatibility are unverified. Read the original documentation and review configuration before use; inherited Merc instructions may not apply to this particular snapshot.
Compatibility
Historical C source; ccache gcc, libcrypt and zlib. Includes 32-bit x86 ELF binaries. Modern Unix/Linux compatibility unverified.
A download checksum confirms file integrity, not security or runtime compatibility. Review the source and included documentation before running unfamiliar software.
Attribution stays with the work.
