CircleMUD Builder - Historical Windows Area Editor
Historical Visual Basic 3.0 offline editor for CircleMUD 3.0 world, mobile, object and zone files, with original help documents and bundled Windows components.
About this resource
Original builder.zip, preserved unchanged. This offline editor assists with CircleMUD 3.0 .wld, .mob, .obj and .zon files. It includes the compiled application, help documents and bundled Windows controls/runtime, not program source code. No editor release number is established by the inspected documentation. Credits Chris Field: program and programming. Matt O.: help files. Preserve Microsoft notices for CMDIALOG.VBX and VBRUN300.DLL, Early Morning Software notices for EMEDIT.VBX, and Steve Bannister / MultiText VBX notices. BUILDER.RTF metadata names John E. Ohlsen as author/operator; this does not override the explicit program and help credits. License warning No standalone license or clear blanket redistribution grant was found in the nine included files. Permission for the editor, help, runtime and third-party controls remains unresolved. Preserve all original documents, copyright and component notices. MultiText VBX 1.30 identifies itself as shareware and credits Steve Bannister, copyright 1995. EMEDIT.VBX 1.6.012 identifies Early Morning Software, copyright 1994, All Rights Reserved, and includes registration and site-license text. Its referenced EMEDIT.HLP is not included. CMDIALOG.VBX and VBRUN300.DLL retain Microsoft notices. CircleMUD format compatibility does not establish that this separate tool is covered by the CircleMUD license. Historical availability and a request for user feedback do not clear all components for redistribution. Retain the embedded ftp_game.org provenance notice without treating it as license evidence. Licensing approval remains unresolved. Archive and safety warnings Contains five compiled MZ/NE Windows modules: BUILDER.EXE, CMDIALOG.VBX, EMEDIT.VBX, MTEXT.VBX and VBRUN300.DLL. README.EXE is zero bytes even though BUILDING.TXT describes it as installation and credit documentation; this missing information has not been fabricated or replaced. No player saves, mail, boards or logs were identified among the nine entries, but this is not a general safety guarantee. No programs were executed, malware-certified or comprehensively security-audited. Hashes establish byte identity, not safety or distribution permission. Compatibility and use warnings Written in Visual Basic 3.0 and documented for Windows 3.1/3.11. The author's Windows 95 statement is speculative. Modern operating-system compatibility is unverified. Legacy instructions ask users to copy controls/runtime into windows/system; do not blindly apply those instructions on modern systems or run untrusted software with elevated privileges. The help warns that there is no reminder to save before exiting. Back up work, save frequently, and validate generated area files against the intended CircleMUD format and version. Historical contacts may no longer work.
Compatibility
CircleMUD 3.0 area format; documented for Visual Basic 3.0 and Windows 3.1/3.11. Windows 95 support was speculative; modern compatibility unverified.
A download checksum confirms file integrity, not security or runtime compatibility. Review the source and included documentation before running unfamiliar software.
