CircleMUD 2.20 - Original Source Archive
Original CircleMUD 2.20 source and world distribution with its historical README companion.
About this resource
Historical CircleMUD 2.20 distribution with C source, world data, utilities and documentation. The original circlemud-README is included as a separate companion. It identifies the November 17, 1993 release and mentions a historical .tar.Z distribution; the archive supplied here is the unchanged .tar.gz file, not that separately compressed file. Credits CircleMUD by Jeremy "Ras" Elson and contributors, with Circle-specific copyright credited to the Trustees of Johns Hopkins University. DikuMUD by Hans Henrik Staerfeldt, Katja Nyboe, Tom Madsen, Michael Seifert and Sebastian Hammer. Preserve the complete included credits, world-author attributions and source notices. License warning Retain the exact bundled DikuMUD license, CircleMUD README conditions, copyright headers, credits and contributor notices. These include noncommercial and no-fee redistribution restrictions, attribution and notification requirements. Do not substitute a later release's license for the original documents. Historical availability does not establish that redistribution obligations have been fulfilled. Archive and runtime warnings The archive retains historical logs, player-related data and saved objects. Review all runtime records and defaults before any deployment or distribution. Its complete gzip stream contains a legacy TAR with one final zero block; some modern tools may warn about that ending. The original archive is not repaired or repacked. Compatibility and safety warnings Mudhaven has not compiled, boot-tested or security-audited this historical release. Test in an isolated environment and review all included scripts before execution. Do not assume malware clearance or modern save/world compatibility. Historical addresses and installation instructions may be obsolete.
Compatibility
Historical C source and CircleMUD world/save formats; modern compilers and operating-system compatibility are unverified.
A download checksum confirms file integrity, not security or runtime compatibility. Review the source and included documentation before running unfamiliar software.
Attribution stays with the work.
