Area Editor 1.24 - Historical Merc and DikuMUD Tool
Legacy DOS area editor with documentation, configuration files and Arachnos sample world data.
About this resource
Area Editor 1.24 is a historical DOS area-building tool by Noel Dillabough (TROM). The original ae124.zip includes the editor executable, documentation, configuration files and Arachnos sample world data. It is not an editor source-code release. ARACHNOS.OBJ is world object data. License and attribution The documentation contains copyright 1993 and an invitation to use the editor. An explicit redistribution grant has not been established from the inspected documents. Licensing approval is still required. Retain the original documentation and all sample-area contributor notices. Compatibility and security warnings Contains the legacy DOS executable AE.EXE. Do not run it on a production host. No malware-free or modern compatibility claim is made. Use isolated legacy testing only after security review. Back up world files before use. Older documentation warns that saving can discard zone or special information, while the later FAQ discusses zone support. Do not assume lossless round trips.
Compatibility
Legacy DOS executable, not editor source. Modern OS compatibility unverified. Review save-format behavior and back up world files before use.
A download checksum confirms file integrity, not security or runtime compatibility. Review the source and included documentation before running unfamiliar software.
Attribution stays with the work.
