Archipelago 1.1 - Historical CircleMUD Codebase
Historical Archipelago 1.1, a modified CircleMUD 2.2 source distribution with a minimal world and its original July 1996 README.
About this resource
Original archipelago-1.1.tar.gz and archipelago.README, preserved unchanged. A stripped-down historical source distribution with a minimal world, dated HTML help and substantial modifications to CircleMUD 2.2. The README is dated July 1996. Credits Archipelago modifications by Alastair Neil (Ponder), Soraya Ghiasi (Kalliste), and Shawn L. Baird (Scarrow), with ideas from Angus Hamilton (Arg). World and development contributors include Chuck Blomberg (Saladin), Jason Chayes (Ansalon), Robert Chin (Xero), David Czeck (Magnifico), Sandra Miura (Grace), and Bryan Wride (Ratatosk). CircleMUD by Jeremy Elson and contributors; retain the Trustees of Johns Hopkins University copyright notice. DikuMUD by Katja Nyboe, Tom Madsen, Hans Henrik Staerfeldt, Michael Seifert, and Sebastian Hammer. Asynchronous lookup component by Dean Gaudet (Lazarus of Arctic). Preserve all additional source and world credits. License warning The included Archipelago/doc/license.doc contains the historical DikuMUD license with no-profit and distribution-charge restrictions, notice preservation, attribution and notification requirements. The README retains CircleMUD and DikuMUD restrictions. Preserve all copyright, license and contributor notices; do not treat historical availability as unrestricted redistribution permission. Dean Gaudet's public-domain statement applies to the separate asynchronous lookup component, not the whole codebase. Retain its RFC1413 security warning. Licensing approval remains unresolved. Archive and runtime-data warnings Contains editor backups, a saved-player object file (lib/plrobjs/P-T/ponder.objs), an ELF core dump (lib/text/core, 143360 bytes), and a compiled ELF utility (src/util/purgeplay, 7246 bytes). Core dumps and saved runtime data may contain sensitive information; do not expose or reuse historical runtime state. The bundled lib/misc/plrmail file is empty. Do not execute the bundled utility or extract untrusted files with elevated privileges. Compatibility and safety warnings Historically tested on Linux only. Documentation is incomplete and includes dated HTML help. Modern compiler, library and operating-system compatibility are unverified. Mudhaven has not compiled, boot-tested, malware-scanned or security-audited this material. Matching hashes establish byte identity, not safety or distribution rights. Historical contact addresses may no longer work.
Compatibility
CircleMUD 2.2-derived historical Linux source; modern compiler, library and operating-system compatibility unverified.
A download checksum confirms file integrity, not security or runtime compatibility. Review the source and included documentation before running unfamiliar software.
Attribution stays with the work.
License
Inherited DikuMUD, CircleMUD and contributor terms; licensing unresolved
