What is RoA?
Realms of Aurealis is a Multi-User Dimension (MUD) based on DikuMUD
and CircleMUD 2.2. It has a touch of LpMUD influence in it as well as we
take ideas from every style of MUD and implement our own unique version.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with what exactly a MUD is, you
may want to check out the CircleMUD home
page for a more in depth description of MUDs in general.
Features
Though RoA is based on a variety of MUDs, the game has
evolved over the past 2+ years into its own derivative. (Yes, we still
extend FULL credit to the creators of DikuMUD and CircleMUD.) Below
is a general list of some of the features you will find while journeying
throughout the Realms:
- A completely original Mythos
written specifically for RoA by the builders
of RoA.
- Some of the best builders found anywhere on the net provide
well written and planned out areas using the single best Online Creation
System a MUD has ever seen. (RoAOLCv2.0)
- An experienced, friendly Immortal staff. More than half
the staff has been with RoA for well over 18 months.
- A world
consisting of roughly 7 hometowns, 12 donation areas and over 10,000 human-written
'rooms', not your 50 million room computer generated forests.
- Multiple classes ranging from Warriors to Bard's, including
a completely OLCable Warlock class.
- Multiple races ranging from Drow to Pixie,
with native dialects such as Zhaunil and Allari. Each race has peculiar
characteristics, such as a drow mage who fights better while cloaked in
darkness and orcs who fight better in packs.
- Clans,
both Role Played (RPCs) and Non-Role Played (NRPCs), which have clan specific
objects and clan 'headquarters'. (Soon to have clan donation areas per
clan.)
- Quests (usually at least 1 per week). For RPCs, clan
specific quests with much more emphasis on Role Playing.
- Assassin option for those who wish to participate in
PlayerKilling activities. In this sense, RoA is both a PK MUD as well
as a Non-PK MUD. You have the choice...
- RP or Non-RP choice. Role Playing is encouraged,
but not enforced by any means. However, there are certain intrinsic rewards
for Role Playing in some situations.
- Enhanced environment code, such as snow that accumulates
and toughens your travel or having a stone sink to the bottom of a river
if you drop it. Zone specific weather includes thunderstorms and blizzards,
all of which is based on builder determined climate statistics.
- Player housing. Edit your house yourself using a limited
version of RoAOLC. Add on to your house all you want and edit those new
rooms as well. Housing locations need only be located in the vicinity of
a hometown which you can normally settle in. Objects save in your house
as well and you have the option of starting the game in your house. Only
certain guests which you invite will be allowed into your house.
- Arena style combat code. Battle other players or participate
in special quests in any zone designated as an Arena zone. In such a contest,
there is no risk of losing experience or equipment and these Arenas can
be held in multiple zones... or even MUDwide.
- Nearly 5000 different objects, some of which deteriorate
and need repair, some which teleport you, some of which form gateways,
some of which cast spells while you fight, and many others.
- Over 3100 mobiles ranging from Spirits of Kylngoth to
the infamous Kiltrin Matranians. RoA has its own completely original mob
scripting language which is completely OLCable to allow mobs to get ever
closer to acting intelligently (intelligence IS relative :).
- Full color support as well as VT100 status bar support.
Customize a pseudo-graphical representation of your player's statistics
on a menu bar at the bottom of the screen which updates every round of
combat (14.4+ connections only).
- Stability. RoA has common uptimes of roughly 7 days.
Reboots are normally because of code additions and enhancements.
